Secondary Electrical Makings

Age: 13 – 18 Years

Task

Embark on an electrifying mission to transform a 3D puzzle into a brilliant illuminated model! On competition day, participants receive a kit with all materials, including LEDs, wires, switches, a soldering iron, batteries, and a circuit board.

The challenge: construct a working circuit that lights up your model — creatively, neatly, and efficiently — within the given time.

Mission Requirements

  • Assemble the 3D puzzle correctly and firmly
  • Light up at least 15 LEDs for State competition
  • For National competition, illuminate as many LEDs as possible
  • Each LED must be spaced at least 3 cm apart
  • Soldering joints must be clean and secure
  • Secret missions may be introduced at the National level

Competition Regulations

State Competition National Competition
  • Participants submit a video showing full construction
  • Video must show 3D model assembly, wiring, soldering & testing
  • Include a visible timer from start to finish (no edits allowed)
  • Model must be shown from all angles upon completion
  • Completion achieved when all 15 LEDs light up
  • Participants build on-site using provided materials only
  • Must apply parallel circuits to light as many LEDs as possible
  • Construction period: 1 hour
  • Faulty components may be replaced upon inspection (no extra time)
  • Organisers may introduce secret missions

Scoring Highlights

  • Correct and stable 3D puzzle assembly
  • Neat soldering and organized wiring
  • Efficient circuit design and LED illumination
